Monterey

We arrived in Monterey at 8am this morning. It was foggy all night and that didn’t change when we rolled in.

Rod and I spent the day at the famous aquarium. It was pretty spectacular, even on a Sunday with so many visitors. We both agreed the jellyfish display to be a favorite. Using lights and music, they become beautiful, graceful, elegant dancers.

With just one day here, it’s been busy. After a long day out, a short rest on the boat, I grabbed my backpack and shopping list and headed for……. TRADER JOE’S!! Berries and yogurt and fresh figs to complement oatmeal or granola; fresh pesto and tortellini with sausage and yams; pineapple/chicken/bell peppers in hoisin sauce; apples, bananas, why did I load the boat up with so much shelf stable foods when we have access to all these fresh delectables? Well, I think their time will come. We’ll be eating canned beans and rice before this is over.

My time has come to go to bed. The sea lions, and there are hundreds of them here, have been yelling at each other all day. We hoped they’d quiet down after dark, but no, they’re still yelling, but at a distance now. Perhaps we’ll get some sleep tonight after all.

  1. After reading Cannery Row, I have always wanted to go to Monterey. Glad you made it there. I can imagine the jelly fish display. What a treat! Safe trip to your next port.

  2. It would have been fun to explore more of the history along Cannery Row. Also, there’s an 18 mile path for walking or biking along the waters edge which could make for a leisurely day away from the crowds. We were there on a Sunday.
