Summer Weather, and addendum

Saturday, July 27th

Saint Anthony’s at the northern end of Newfoundland is at latitude 51.3745 degrees.

Port au Basques at the south end of the west coast of Newfoundland is at latitude 47.58, darn close to Seattle’s latitude.

At 7am this morning in Corner Brook (lat. 48.95) the temperature was 45 degrees. The forecast indicates the high to be 69 degrees at 4pm. Humidity 97 percent. Not having been outdoors yet I can’t say for sure what the humidity feels like, but it felt cold enough to turn the heater on to take off the chill.

The weather has been mild. Usually with the nights in the low 50’s and daytime temperatures rarely reaching over 70 degrees. There have been periods of gray for a couple days, with rain and sometimes hard rain. Each week it seems there’s a day, or partial day of rain. But the remainder of the days are sunny and not too warm, perfect!!

Addendum:

Twillingate. Monday, July 29th.Two days after posting about the wonderful temperatures a heat warning is in effect. The temperature could reach 82 degrees today. Not bad relative to Canada’s interior Provinces and what the states have been experiencing, but for Newfoundland it’s hot and they’re not accustomed to it. Neither am I. The humidity is 54%. With the sun beating down, this treasure trove of hiking trails is off limits for me. Rather I spend my time in Lulu, perched on a cliff above the sea, back doors open to the wind, enjoying a lazy comfortable day.

  1. How is Lulu doing after being in the shop? Looks like you’re on the east side of Newfoundland now. Soooo far east!
