The End

Whether the boat is yawing on rolling swell, jumping and bumping in wind and waves, or anchored in a calm and quiet cove, I love being on the water.

However, this boat journey ended prematurely for me, just a third of the way through with the best yet to come: wildlife, drier weather (one would hope) and maybe Glacier Bay.

The itinerary had the skipper and me scheduled for 3 weeks without other crew aboard: July 8-31st. Initially that seemed fine. But a mechanical breakdown followed by a debilitated skipper while crossing Dixon Entrance gave me a clear message: I could not continue this cruise once other crew members departed. My ability to handle Opus on my own is beyond my expertise and physical abilities.

Having informed the skipper of my decision he chose not to travel further north. On June 18th the journey ended there in Ketchikan for the two other crew members – Karen and Samantha – and me.

The 3 us us gals patched together a short trip to Juneau. I’ll visit friends in Sitka and Seattle, regroup, and enjoy whatever comes next.
