California Visit’in

Who knew we had so many friends and relatives in California. After dropping CT (Tues., 3/22) at the Palm Springs airport, Lulu and I set our sights towards the coast with a stop to wash and clean her in shady 90 degree heat in Winchester. We blended in with traffic, rather, we stood out in commuter traffic the remaining drive to more comfortable temperatures in Oceanside. Parking 2 blocks from the beach made for a quiet night. Next morning, down to beach parking where Lulu attracted attention for fun conversations and interesting people while cleaning the salt air off her windows.

Visiting with Bob and Portia was a special unexpected treat. Being former in-laws, having not seen them for over 25 years, still it was as if no time had passed. Only the kids aged with families and lives of their own. We, of course, hadn’t change a bit. Such a gracious, warm welcome and enjoyable visit.

Bob and Portia!

Beautiful succulents on private patio with a view of trees, wildlife drama on the wing, and geckos.

Onward the same day, a power nap was in order before presenting myself to cousin Karen and Pete in Cypress. A warm welcome was awaiting. Having never visited their CA home, nor had opportunity for intimate conversation, this was a real treat. Lemonade and fruit for a back yard visit in the shade, dinner at a favorite outdoor restaurant on the water, a shower for me, good-byes, and a sound sleep in Lulu in their driveway.

More visiting to come, but first, a coastal drive!
