With the interruption to Quijote’s journey and the uncertainty of when it might resume, it was time to consider, What Now?
The quiet drive with Rod from San Diego to Seattle provided time for thought and a gentle transition into the World of Covid. A basement haven at my sister’s in Seattle to quarantine and adjust provided more time for uninterrupted contemplation.
Fairly quickly, an ‘aha’ moment emerged: get a van, live in it and do some exploration!
Not so quick were the endless hours of research. With the myriad options, my criteria was finally reduced to three main focuses: reliability, roominess, and resale value. As enticing as a VW Bus is, it was not realistic.
After two months of weighing in, a YouTube review revealed The One. Having never stepped foot into this model, I nevertheless posted an alert for my heart’s desire on several RV sale sites while scouring dealerships for any availability. Within several days, a notice arrived that a couple in Manmouth, OR had a model for sale, just one year older than what I’d hoped for. On July 2, with help from a friend, we lassoed Lulu and brought her to Seattle.
Pictured here is Lulu with another recent acquisition, Buttercup.
Another two months of having her checked by auto mechanics, rv specialists and tire professionals, as well as personal attention from me on how to empty tanks, fill propane, fix the fridge, monitor batteries, etc. etc. etc. it’s time to start testing the fun factor!
