With Quijote on the hard, Rod and I are currently crewing on sailing vessel Rover. We’ll help get her to San Diego where she’ll remain at a slip indefinitely with her live aboard owners, Eric and Linda. We met Rover in Seattle. She came down the coast with the Coho HoHo rally, same as Quijote.
Rover is Valiant42, (42 feet long) with a 12.5′ beam. This vessel has about 33% more square footage than Quijote and feels quite roomy for 4 persons aboard. She was built in 1999 at Valiant Yachts in Texas. She’s been with Linda and Eric since 2013. She houses 6 berths, a roomy head with shower, a spacious gallery and plenty of stowage space with everything ship shape. Eric is a retired engineer. Linda is an excellent seamstress. She’s sewn just about all the cloth on board save for the sails and bimini covering. She’s also an award winning baker. With a large (for a boat) propane oven and three burner stove she handily whips up fresh bread and deee-licious meals. With 5 solar panels keeping the batteries above 90% at all times, the water maker provides fresh drinking, cooking and cleaning water. It’s interesting to be on a different boat, see how it’s set-up and how on board life differs across vessels.
