Happy Places

My happy place is usually anchored in a protected cove or bay. Perhaps the wind is blowing so hard we stay on the boat doing chores, reading, playing cribbage. Perhaps we can get to shore for a hike up a hill for spectacular vistas or beachcombing.

Perhaps we go paddle boarding or snorkeling. Being out for 3 weeks is long enough for anyone to be super appreciative of a marina. Not all marina are alike. Most folks hope for a marina with a laundry mat, hot showers, a good restaurant, and maybe a small store. WiFi is optional, but it’s wonderful to hear the voices of Chris and Emily, and family. One night in the marina would be fine with me, but it’s difficult to fit in everything, plus procuring provisions. There’s few ports in the Sea of Cortez on the Baja Peninsula. We stopped at Puerto Escondido, near Loreto, on the way north, and we’re here again as we head south towards La Paz, staying a whopping 3 nights! First night found us enjoying a scrumptious dinner at the port restaurant, complete with tasty, inexpensiveness and therapeutic cocktails: Skippers choice: Pina Colada!

We rented a car and on our way to Loreto to re-provision, we drove 25 miles of breathtaking beauty into the Sierra de Gigantas (mountain range) to visit a 300 year old mission.

San Javier Mission

We’ve taken advantage of all the perks this marina has to offer, and more. One final shower in super clean bathrooms (female janitors are normally stationed outside the restroom/showers to mop up often, and somehow, the garbage cans always seem to be empty!), and we’ll be on our way again for another 2-3 weeks. Next port (shower/clean clothes/fun cocktail and food): Marina de La Paz!
