Back on Quijote Again

I’m hunkered down on Quijote in near gale force winds.  She’s rocking, her rigging is singing, and there’s a lot of commotion going on all around.
The rest of the story: She’s in port, pulling at her dock lines. Every other boat in the marina is rocking and swaying in 25-30kt winds and all of them are singing their tunes or slapping out a beat with lines and masts.
I’m in my shorts and tank top, ‘hunkered down’ reading in the shade with a temperature of 70 degrees at 0930. Yup, it’s warmish.

We (Quijote and I) are in La Paz, Baja California Sur. The rest of the crew (Rod and Petar) will arrive mid January to continue our journey and explore the Sea of Cortez, aka Gulf of California. In the meantime, my aim is to putter on Quijote, read a lot, spend Christmas + ten days kayaking out of Lareto just a few hours north of here, and practice being alone in a friendly, foreign-speaking country.

An unexpected month ‘home’ was a treat: spending time with family from near and far; a week spent in my home away from home (Sitka, ohhh Alaska, I’m smitten); contemplating being with Quijote for the next year and a half. Although we departed Seattle mid-August, we’ve only been underway for 4 weeks. This time will be a much longer absence. However, it will be rewarding in exploration and adventure, all the more rich with the well wishes, gifts, and hugs from all of you. xoxo

  1. Glad you arrived safely and are comfortable in your sea home. Winds, weather, exciting places and new friends await you as the adventure continues. Miss you but love to hear about all that is going on. So much to learn, so much to see.
